The Kiama Bypass

Project Description

The 7.6km North Kiama Bypass, on the Princes Highway near Dunmore, improves safety and travel conditions by eliminating a winding section of the highway at Minnamurra as well as removing through traffic in residential streets in Bombo, Kiama Downs and Minnamurra. The NSW and Commonwealth governments funded the project.

Geo Image Services was contracted to complete the projects due to the company’s expertise in managing large infrastructure projects combined with its superior GPS machine controlled management.

Scope of Works

  • Setup of GPS base and all machine control models
  • Construct 5 bridges (2 that pass over the bypass, 2 for local roads and 1 over the rail siding at Dunmore)
  • Monitor embankments
  • All volume calculations, mass haul diagrams and monthly updates
  • Control and boundary establishment
  • Construct a feature arch structure and wing walls over the existing rail siding at Bombo
  • Construct numerous large culverts over existing drains
  • Construct reinforced earth walls and noise barriers
  • Drill and blast of approximately 1 million tonnes of rock and over 1.5 million tonnes of material to be placed in fill
  • Install 7km of pavement and kerbs
  • Provide conformance reports as built drawings and all quality assurance
  • Supply variation volumes and backup documentation
  • Produce work as executed drawings and files
